I tracked down your question of the reference of the alias.
The words: alias: Thomas Robinson was written to the side of the name William Thomas Ewell on a handwritten family group sheet chart found in the research of a man who is also named William Thomas Ewell Jr. He lived here in Utah and did research in the 1930, 40 and 50's trying to gather all the Ewell's in America and trying to chart who belonged to who. He gives his reference for the information as from the New England Hist & Gen. Reg. Vol 81 p.310
I don't have copies of that Vol and page to see why or how the alias was stated. So I can't help you with that concern. I'm sure he found the Vol. at the the Salt Lake Family History Library. It was there he did all his research.
I am forwarding this message to my cousin Paul Jensen who will be most interested in your website and corresponding with you as he enters this branch of the Ewell family data for our website.
Perhaps we could put a link from our Website to yours on his name.

      VaLene:
I saw your reference to Thomas Robinson who married Mary Chapman, at www.rootsweb.com. You said that this Thomas Robinson was an alias for William Thomas Ewell. I am descended from Sarah Maria Robinson, b ca 1839 Springfield, Hampden Co, Mass who was a dau of Thomas Robinson and Mary Chapman. My Thomas was born ca 1807-09 Mass and moved to Bolton, Tolland Co, Ct. Although his and Mary's birthyears are a little different than what you quoted, I can only find one Thomas Robinson family in Tolland Co, so these must be the same family. Do you have any more information on this family? I haven't been able to locate Thomas in the 1850 census, looking for both the Robinson and Ewell names. Why did William Thomas Ewell use the alias Thomas Robinson? I would love to share information with you on these families. I had reached a stumbling block on Thomas Robinson and Mary Chapman and had not been able to trace their ancestry. I've created a website on my Thomas Robinson at www.geocities.com/mdn3557/robinson/robinson0 Looking forward to hearing from you.

      Valene,

I am part of the Adams/Chapman family line that connected to the Robinson family in Mass and Ct back in 1836. Back then, my Thomas Robinson married a Polly Ann Chapman, and the line descended on to me.

In our Adams research, we found information listed that possibly our Thomas Robinson was an alias for an actual person called William Thomas Ewell. Your e-mail was there as a reference note.

Since I've had a great deal of trouble in finding the ancestors of my Thomas Robinson, I'm interested in why you feel both men are one and the same.

If you can help me make the connection with what you know, it would be so appreciated.

About Thomas Robinson, born ca 1809-1813 Mass.

How did this William Thomas Ewell play into your family line, if at all? On my Thomas Robinson, I know specific things, such as marriage date of 1836 to Polly Ann Chapman, birth dates of his children, listing last names as Robinson, Census records for him as Thomas Robinson on 1840, 1860 and 1880.

Your William Thomas Ewell.........was he appearing anywhere during these times I've mentioned? That would indicate two separate people are involved here, and might help to determine if they are on and the same, or not.

      Valene,

By the way, when I thought the Ewell line was mine, I had traced the family back to the Mayflower...Thomas (Robinson) Ewell being a descendent of George Soule.

      Interesting. We shall see.

      Nancy
